Israel has decided on Sunday to freeze $ 138 million for the Palestinian Authority as a protest against the latter’s allocations to relatives of Palestinian prisoners, according to a government statement.
According to figures from the security services, the Palestinian Authority in 2018 allocated this amount to the arrested terrorists, their families and the former detainees, ” the Israeli Prime Minister’s office said in a statement.
“That’s why we decided to freeze this amount of money that Israel reverses from fees” charged by the Jewish state on imported Palestinian products, the statement said.
The announcement was made on the same day that the Gaza-based Hamas movement took control of the Kerem Shalom crossing, the only trade between that stretch and Israel, before officials from the Palestinian National Authority ).
The decision was taken by ANP’s Minister of Civil Affairs, Hussein al-Sheikh, who called for the immediate withdrawal of his officials, after denouncing that Hamas imposed new security restrictions, ANP sources told Efe that they requested anonymity.
