Portuguese international defender Fábio Coentrão will play in Rio Ave, the Portuguese I league announced today.
“I am the new reinforcement of Rio Ave,” said Fabio Coentrão, 30, who played last season for Sporting on loan from Real Madrid in a video shared by the Vila dos Congos on the official Facebook page, without revealing details of hiring.
The natural defense of Vila do Conde still had a year of contract with the formation of the Spanish capital.
Coentrão completed his training at Rio Ave, from which he moved to Benfica in 2007/08. Before joining in the 2009/10 season, he was loaned to Nacional, Zaragoza and Rio Ave, then joined Real Madrid in 2011/12, who also loaned him to Monaco in 2015/16, and Sporting, last season.
The side scored five goals in the 52 appearances in the Portuguese team, to the service of which he was in the World Cups of 2010 and 2014 and in Euro2012.
