The Portuguese team that participates in the European Championships of adapted athletics, that take place in Berlin, today conquered two more medals, one of gold and one of silver, totaling nine in the competition.
According to a note from the Portuguese Athletics Federation, on the fourth day of races, athlete Luís Gonçalves won the gold medal in the 200 meters class T2, while Miguel Monteiro secured the silver in the launch of the class F40 weight.
The sprinter Luís Gonçalves was the first to shine on the day, collecting the gold medal in the 200 meters of class T12 with the time of 23.12 seconds, surpassing the Greek Athanas Ghavelas in the final meters of the race, in which it was his second podium, after the bronze in the 100 meters.
Already at the end of the afternoon, Miguel Monteiro gave new joy to the Portuguese delegation, being second in launching the weight of class F40 with the mark of 9.69 meters, only beaten by the 18 cm longest launch of Croatian Matija Sloup.
Still on the fourth test day, Mário Trindade was fourth in the 1,500 meters of the T51 / 52 class, only two tenths of the podium, with the mark of 4.49,11 hours, and Maria Graça Fernandes finished the final of the 200 meters of class T38 in seventh place, with the time of 31.34 seconds. Sandro Baessa raced the 800-meter T20 class in 2.09.34 minutes with the third fastest time of the tie and disputed the final on Friday at 17:15.
The day also counted on the participation of Sandra Semedo and João Lomar in the tricycles. Sandra Semedo was ranked seventh in the 100 meters in the RR2 / RR3 class with a time of 26.02 seconds, while João Lomar finished fourth in the final of the men’s side of the same race, with the mark of 30.15 seconds.
With the podiums today conquered, Portugal reaches the nine medals in these European Championships. Carina Paim (400 meters T20), Sandro Baessa (400 meters T20) and Mário Trindade (100 meters T51 / 52) conquered gold, Carolina Duarte won silver (200 meters T13) and Carlos Freitas (400 meters T20), Luis Gonçalves 100 meters T12) and Maria Graça Fernandes (400 meters T38) secured the bronze in the first days of the competition.
On Friday, Ana Filipe, Cláudia Santos and Érica Gomes compete in the final of the long jump of the T20 class, Márcia Araújo in the qualification of the 200 meters of class T12, Maria Odete Fiúza in the final of the 1,500 meters of class T11, Luís Gonçalves in the final of the 400 meters of class T12, Sandro Baessa in the final of the 800 meters of the T20 class, Carolina Duarte in the final of the 100 meters of class T13, Hélder Mestre in the final of the 200 meters of the class T51 and Rafael Neto in the qualification of the 100 meters of the class T54.
